4 floor new

THIS was the scene, above and below, in St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, on Thursday (April 20th) as work on the Re-ordering Project moves on apace. A lot of the floor has had insulation put down and is being prepared to put the underfloor heating in. Underfloor heating pipes have been laid in the North and South Transepts and wiring has been added for the new lighting system. For more pictures from Thursday click here and here.

THERE'S a chance to find out for yourself how far work has progressed on the amazing £1.9m Re-ordering Project in St Mary’s Church, Melton Mowbray, on Saturday, May 13th. 
Guided tours of the historic building will be taking place on that evening and everyone is invited to come along. The cost of the evening, which starts at 6.45pm for 7pm, is £10, which includes a light buffet and a glass of wine.
Melton Mowbray Team Parish Rector, the Revd Kevin Ashby, will be giving a short talk and showing some pictures of the work and then groups of up to ten people at a time will be shown round St Mary’s. This will then be followed by refreshments and there will then be a chance to answer any questions people may have.
For catering purposes please book your tickets at the Reception Office in the Samworth Centre, Melton Mowbray, or from Ian Neale on 01664 565798 or email by Wednesday, May 10th. Proceeds from the evening will go towards the Re-ordering Project.

The Bishop of Leicester, the Rt Revd Martyn Snow, joined the Melton Mowbray Team Parish procession and holy communion on Palm Sunday (April 9th). 
Before this took place the Bishop was shown inside St Mary's Church, where the £1.9m Re-ordering Project is now under way, by Team Rector, the Revd Kevin Ashby(right) and members of the CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) Ian Neale (second left) and Andrew Nutter. *BBC East Midlands Today reporter James Roberson and a cameraman visited Derek Hunt's studios in Medbourne on Friday, March 24th and interviewed him about the stained glass window he is making for St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray. hands 2*Jacqui Wilson and Trisha Nutter will be arranging prayer for the reordering project. They plan to meet fortnightly on different days and times to pray for 10 - 15 minutes somewhere around the outside of the church. They will use open prayer, to pray for pertinent areas of work at that time and will have a 'Re-ordering Prayer' on sheets for others to join in. Anyone can join in - just turn up. The dates are: Thursday, 27th April, 9.30am; Monday, 8th May, 9.30am; Saturday, 27th May, 9.30am; Thursday, 8th June, 4pm. Please share with any interested people.
*The St Mary’s Melton Project has been given a further boost. The Fundraising Committee has recently received positive responses to grant applications. Promises and gifts linked to four separate trusts now amount to £32,000. We await responses from some other grant bodies.
*We have also been accepted by the Co-op Community fund which will give us a donation related to people opting to help. If you shop at a Co-op, or use any other Co-op services and are a member, please support St Mary’s.

*A cheque for £1,500 has been received from Melton Mowbray Lions Club. The donation will be used to buy a pendant light for the church.
The Lions felt that St Mary’s Church represents a busy community meeting place and the renovations will allow more comfortable surroundings and greater accessibility to the numerous groups who will use the facilities.
This website was praised by Melton Mowbray Lions Club President Sabrina Tate when she handed over the cheque for £1,500 to John Craig, chairman of St Mary’s Project Committee.
"I'm impressed by the parish website, which tracks the progress of the renovations and allows individuals to see how they can support this vital work," she said.

*A virtual tour of St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, is now available to look at. It has been organised by the church's Fabric Express Committee so a before and after comparison can be made after the re-ordering project has got under way. The tour was compiled by Chris Jones from LeicesterPhoto Limited, which is based in Littlethorpe, Leicester.

The Melton Team Parish Plod will take place on Sunday, 11th June at 2pm with a short, easy walk starting from St Bartholomew’s Church, Welby, followed by refreshments.
The Melton Mowbray Team Parish Annual Parochial Church Meeting will take place on Tuesday, 25th April, at 7.30pm in St James' Church, Burton Lazars.
Melstrum Ukulele Orchestra will be appearing in concert at The Stute, Welby Road, Asfordby Hill, on Saturday, 13th May, at 7.30pm.
There was the usual fun and games at the latest Saturday activities morning to be held by St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, on Saturday (April 8th) in Melton Borough Council offices in Parkside.
Arthur Payne will present his No. 5 collection of ‘Photographs of Old Melton’, followed by cheese and wine refreshments, at Sysonby Knoll Hotel at 7pm on Thursday, April 27th.

Almost twelve months ago 4,000 people wrote what they were thankful for on graffiti boards installed in Leicester Cathedral during Lent. Since then the Count Your Blessing Boards have been on tour around the Diocese, from Melton Mowbray to Hinckley.

We have been told by Storehouse that they are having to buy some foodstuff to meet the needs of people referred to them. they are short of tinned fish, meats, curry, casseroles, hot dogs, puddings, spaghetti and vegetables, and instant pot noodles.
The service of Licensing and Institution for the new Melton Mowbray Team Parish Vicar, the Revd Dr Mary Barr, will take place at 7pm on Tuesday, May 23rd, at St Mary Magdalene Church, Waltham-on-the-Wolds.

A meeting was held in St James' church, Burton Lazars on Sunday, March 5, when the final refurbishment plans, which have now been granted a Faculty by the DAC, were on view and those present were told how far things have reached.
Hungry visitors to the Farmers’ Market on Scalford Road in Melton Mowbray were treated to some free pancakes on Shrove Tuesday (February 28th).
