Refurbishment plans on show

A meeting was held in St James' Church, Burton Lazars on Sunday, March 5 when the final refurbishment plans, which have now been granted a Faculty by the DAC, were on view and those present were told how far things have reached with the project.

This included a PowerPoint presentation giving a breakdown of the costs and the funding secured so far, as well as the plans for using the new facilities to benefit the whole community in a way that has not been possible before. There was time for questions and discussion accompanied by tea and cake!
In the February edition of the St James Blazers newsletter, Janet King and Jenny Pengelly write: "It has been a while since we last circulated details of our progress  on the refurbishment plans for St James.

"That is largely due to the fact that it has been a bit of a roller-coaster getting the plans passed by the Diocesan Advisory Committee and then the Chancellor.

"But at last, we have the Faculty in our hands and we are now inviting tenders from suitably qualified contractors.

" Alongside this process, we have been working hard to raise funds for the project, both through our own events and donations and by applying to a variety of different grant making bodies.  To date we have roughly a third of our £200,000 target  — so there is still a long way to go before work can actually begin as we have to have all the money in place (or promised) before we can start.
"So, we need your help as we continue to press forward! In this special edition of our Blazers newsletter you will find information about a number of events coming up in the next few weeks along with one or two more ‘wacky’ ideas for the entrepreneurs among us!
"Of course, donations for the project are always welcome and may be eligible for gift aid (details available in confidence from our Treasurer Jenny Pengelly) and special Gift Day envelopes will be available for the Easter Sunday Gift Day. A Donations Book will also be available.
"We are also launching a JustGiving Page to spread the word and provide another way for people from near and far to give to our project on line."
