remembering lost loved ones

Our Service of Loving Remembrance held on November 5th at St James' Church, Burton Lazars, was particularly well attended this year, writes Janet King.

Several of our members contributed to an informal relaxed service of readings, music and reflection. The names of loved ones lost were read out and candles lit to remember them. An opportunity was then given for anyone to come to the altar to light a personal candle in an act of remembrance to a quiet background of classical music provided by guitarist Roger Dalby.

In keeping with a line taken from the poem ‘The Scent of the Roses’ by Thomas Moore which was our theme, people were invited at the end of the service to come forward to receive a beautiful scented white rose in memory of their loved one.

There was a warm family atmosphere as many people stayed to share memories over tea and cake and many expressions of appreciation both for the service and for the support felt in time of loss.
