A real high note!

A good crowd of hardy souls braved the snow and ice to listen to the Passion Sunday Devotion Olivet to Calvary by John Henry Maunder performed in St Mary’s Church, Melton Mowbray, on Sunday night (18th March).

And I am sure they are glad they did. Any event which features St Mary's Church Musical Director James Gutteridge (Conductor) Colin Reed (Tenor) Robert-John Edwards (Baritone) and James Bladon (Organist), as well as St Mary’s Church Choir and Melton Mowbray Choral Society, has to be onto a sure-fire winner... and Sunday night was no exception.

The standard of music and singing was nothing short of what we have come to expect in the beautifully refurbished St Mary's and everyone who took part must be congratulated on a fantastic performance.

Olivet to Calvary recalls the scenes which mark the last few days of Christ's life on earth. Part 1 starts with Christ's jubilant journey to Jerusalem and ends with the scene on the Mount of Olives. Part 2 begins with the Feast of Passover with Christ's commandment to his disciples to 'Love one Another' and ends with the Crucifixion at Calvary. It is interspersed with congregational hymns which reflect on the scenes.

Special thanks must also go to everyone who helped make the event such a big success, including the hard-working servery team who served refreshments afterwards and the Revd Canon Peter Moseling who led the devotion.
