Flushed with success!

Kind-hearted members of the congregation at St Bartholomew's Church, Welby, have twinned their toilet with one in Kassamwa Village, Tanzania, as part of their Harvest outreach.

Not only did they manage to donate money to twin their toilet, they were also able to send a further £162 to Tearfund to support the work of the charity with the needy in Tanzania.

And on Sunday (October 21st) a certificate, complete with a colour photo of its twin and GPS coordinates so you can look up your twin’s location on Google Maps, was placed in the loo in St Bartholomew's Church. By twinning your toilet you help those in desperate poverty to have access to a proper latrine, clean water and the information they need to be healthy.

Only about half of Tanzania’s population have clean, safe water. Waterborne diseases, including diarrhoea and dysentery, are common. More than a third of children under five in Tanzania are stunted, a condition frequently linked with poor sanitation.

Despite Tanzania’s economic growth in recent years, almost a third of its population live in poverty. Chronic malnutrition remains a key cause of death for children under five.
