Kind-hearted and generous congregation members of St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, gave fantastic support on Sunday (November 25th) to a charity which helps needy children at Christmas.

For the 10am Worship at Ten ~ All Age Worship Service focussed on Toys on the Table, a local charity which provides new toys and gifts for those children, regardless of faith, who might otherwise not receive anything.

Toys of all shapes and descriptions were brought along which will be distributed to children of needy families in the area.

Chairman of the charity, Mac Clarke, and his wife Nickie were special guests at the service and they were bowled over by the toys which were brought along.

Last year the charity gave out 10,000 toys to some 3,800 children who are referred to them by Social Services.

Toys on the Table started in the early 1980′s, when the Leicester Round Table 39 established the project. In recent years it has become a separate independent Registered Charity, run by a Board of Trustees, who represent community service organisations including Rotary International, Inner Wheel, the Society of Leicestershire and Rutland Golf Captains, together with workers and volunteers from the City and County Social Services.

Many years on the need is still as high as it always has been for donated gifts and toys, and with the huge support from the public, the Toys on the Table Appeal has enabled thousands of children to receive gifts during the festive period throughout the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland areas.

If you missed the service on Sunday but would like to donate to the charity you can still do so. They collect new toys for children aged between 0 and 16 years.

Toys on the Table operates from Matrix House, Constitution Hill, Leicester, LE1 1PL. Find out how you can donate toys or help the charity by going to their website by clicking here.
