Mary Martin with the bauble she had made from Malta.

From Malta with love

One bauble has been especially delivered all the way from Malta for this year's Christmas Tree Festival in Melton Mowbray.

When Mary Martin, who lives in Derby, visited the festival last year she realised that there was no bauble representing Malta on Martin Copson's "tree of the world" on which were hung baubles and ornaments from across the globe.

She promised there and then to bring one in for this year and three weeks ago, true to her word, she brought in a bauble which was made for her at the Bristow factory in Malta.

"I came to the Christmas Tree Festival last year and I was mesmerised by all of the trees and the hard work that had gone into it and couldn't wait to come again,"said Mary.

"I am very proud of my country," she added. "I came to this country in 1972 when I married a British soldier but I have always visited Malta to see my relatives, so when I was there in August I got the bauble for this year's event."

Mary is so taken with the Christmas Tree Festival that she has already booked a tree in for next year's event. If you visit the festival and can't find Mary's bauble then please ask one of our helpers to show you where it is.

A close-up look at the bauble brought in by Mary.
