What we do

Getting to know you!

A team of eight people from St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, hosted the local Contact the Elderly group in the Samworth Centre on Sunday afternoon (March 3rd).

Contact the Elderly is a national charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people. The charity, with the support of a volunteer network, organises monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for small groups of older people, aged 75 and above, who live alone and would appreciate some company.

Each older person is collected from their home by a volunteer driver and taken to a venue organised by the volunteer host for the afternoon.  The group is welcomed by different hosts (churches, individual families and friends, schools, social groups) each month. The free parties are a great opportunity to make new friends within the community.
