Service of celebration

Church choirs from around the Diocese came together for an annual service of celebration in St Mary’s Church, Melton Mowbray, on Sunday afternoon (9th June).

The Royal School of Church Music Diocesan Service was a joy to be a part of and included the hymns Come down O love divine, Praise to the Holiest and O praise ye the Lord, the worship song Light of the World by Tim Hughes, the canticle Te Deum by Charles Villiers Stanford and anthems The heavens are telling by Joseph Haydn, I will sing to the Spirit by John Rutter and Listen, Sweet Dove by Grayston Ives.

The readings were Galatians 5:13-end and At the round earths imagined corners by John Donne.

Add to this the fantastic St Mary's Church Choir, led by multi-talented Musical Director James Gutteridge, accompanied on the organ mainly by David Cowen and also Dr Christopher Ouvry-Johns (Leicester Cathedral Director of Music), and you can see why this was a service not to be missed.

Special thanks to everyone who helped make the service so special, to everyone who took part and to everyone who helped in any way during the afternoon.
