What we do

Kingfisher Chorale in action in St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, on Saturday night.

An amazing performance

Kingfisher Chorale put on an amazing performance of unaccompanied choral music in St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, on Saturday night (July 6th).

The choir, directed by Giles Turner, were a delight to listen to and showed their versatility with a varied programme which included works by Anton Bruckner, Ola Gjeilo, Charles Villiers Stanford, Sergei Rachmaninov, John Rutter and the truly sensational rendition of Stars by Eriks Esenvalds. The latter involved creating some stunning sounds to accompany the singing using various shaped glasses filled with water and rubbing the rims. It was hard to believe that such a beautiful sound could be made in this way.

The choir of around 25 singers performs a wide repertoire, both sacred and secular, from Medieval to new commissions. It is celebrating its 21st year, rehearses in Cosby and members come from all over Leicestershire. The choir mainly performs in Leicester and the county, but also goes further afield such as Oxford, Norfolk, Sussex and Stamford.

The only disappointing thing on the night was the low turnout of people coming along to hear such a talented group of singers.
