What we do

Rain stopped play!

Although there was no planned meeting in August a few members had accepted an invitation to a garden party on 9 August organised by the Leicester Diocese Mothers' Union to celebrate Mary Sumner’s Day.
This was to be held in the garden of the Bishop's Lodge. Despite having had some reasonable weather in the preceding days a 'yellow
weather warning’ was issued. The organisers made the necessary ‘Risk Assessment’ and bearing in mind the members’ safety, the
Members’ enjoyment and the care of Bishop Martyn's garden, decided to cancel the event.
Mary Sumner founded the Mothers' Union in 1876. Wife of the Rector of Old Alfreston, she wanted to bring together women of all backgrounds to build a network that would support women of all kinds as they brought up children in the Christian Faith. This organisation is now made up of over 4 million Christians in 84 countries worldwide. Mary is remembered on 9 August each year.

MARY SUMNER'S PERSONAL PRAYER:
All this day, O Lord
let me touch as many lives as possible for thee; and every life I touch, do thou by thy spirit quicken,
whether through the word I speak, the prayer I breathe, or the life I live.
Amen.
