celebrating our county
The Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Mike Kapur OBE, and the Chairman of the County Council, Pam Posnett MBE, were joined by a long list of local dignitaries to celebrate our wonderful county at a special service in St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, on Sunday (13th October).
The County Service was held to give thanks to God for all his blessings poured out on us and to pray for the county - for all who live and work within it, who visit it for shopping or recreation, or to discover its heritage. Prayers were said for the Chairman of the County Council and her colleagues, for the elected members of the council and those who work for it.
Preacher at the service, which was led by Melton Mowbray Team Parish Rector, the Revd Kevin Ashby, was the Bishop of Leicester, the Rt Revd Martyn Snow. Amongst the other dignitaries at the service were The High Sheriff of Leicestershire, Mr Tim Hercock; HH Judge Hampton and HH Judge Hedley; Chief Executive of Leicestershire County Council, Mr John Sinnott CBE MVO; Mayor of Melton, Malise Graham MBE; THE Vice-Chancellor of Loughborough University, Professor Robert Allison and Pro-Chancellor of De Montford University, Professor David Wilson.
Many thanks to everyone who took part in the event, including St Mary's Church Choir who were joined by members of Melton Mowbray Choral Society, and those who came along to support it. Proceeds from a collection will go towards St Mary's Church and the Chairman of the County Council's appeal for East Midlands Immediate Care Support (EMICS), which assists East Midlands Ambulance Service at the scene of life-threatening emergencies.
After the service light refreshments were served by Mary's Place Catering Manager Carol Sloan and her team.
