Mike was a gem

Mike McClure died in hospital on Sunday, 19th April after battling  illness.

He was determined not to be beaten and bore each challenge with fortitude. He always had a positive outlook even when he was in great discomfort. He always thought of others.

How can we adequately reflect the contribution he has made in so many areas? It's an impossible task.
Typically, Mike was still working on church business just days ago. He usually worked behind the scenes and never sought the limelight but was a key member of so many groups and committees. These include Melton Mowbray Child Contact Centre and the Mothers' Union! He sat on the steering committee for the Samworth Centre which now is Mary’s Place.

He always made himself available when visitors arrived at Church and ensured they were made welcome. Mike had been a Church Warden, where his broad knowledge of church matters, warm personality, good humour, enthusiasm and patience were valued. He used these same skills as a steward. He held a list for the congregational contact scheme and always made people feel welcome.
Mike was a key member of the Project Committee which steered our Re-ordering Project to a successful conclusion. Over many years he has been secretary for the Fabric Committee, which has involved a heavy workload, particularly in arranging for faculty approval. Mike served on the PCC, DCC, Standing and Finance Committees. More vital background work.
Mike personally maintained the Planned Giving Scheme, Electoral Roll and always got things done: “I’ve started, so I’ll finish!”

He was universally liked and will be missed by all who knew him. He will leave a great legacy. He was a gem.

- John  Craig.

*A memorial service for Mike will be held in St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray on his birthday, October 13th, time to be arranged. Do put that date in your diary!
