Pets 'n' Praise

The continued easing of Covid restrictions has given us the opportunity to open up to the community a little more at St James' Church, Burton Lazars, especially with small Covid aware outdoor events, writes Janet King.

So we came up with the idea of putting on a Pets 'n' Praise, which was held in the Church Paddock on Father's Day (June 20th). Along with some pet owners from the congregation we were pleased to welcome some families and friends from the village, many together with their pet.

Suitably distanced, we watched a short dog agility demonstration by Gemma who lives in the village and some of us enjoyed the edible kind of 'hot dog!'

After the demonstration some of the group were pleased to take up the offer to encourage their own dogs to try out the course, some with more success than others!

During the morning the Church was open to allow people in small groups, suitably spaced out and with masks in place, to view the exhibition of photographs and stories about people's pets telling something of what they mean to them, and in some cases how they had helped them through the last 15 months.

We are thankful that the rain held off for us and for the wonderful opportunity we had to meet more families from the village.

Special thanks go to Julia and Christopher for putting in the work to make this a success. Big thanks also to Gemma and her dogs and everyone else who helped make this a fun event.
