Melton Mowbray Team Parish Rector, the Revd Kevin Ashby, is leading a 9 day tour of Sicily in Italy from August 26th until September 3rd, 2019. This includes a trip by coach to the top of Mt Etna, the towns of Taormina and Cefalu, the gorges of Alcantara, the medieval city of Randazzo and the “Villa del Casale”, the Valley of the Temples (showing the paganism St Paul was confronted by when he visited the island), Palermo with its Duomo, Cathedral, Palatine Chapel and Catacombs of the Capuchin monks, mummified and preserved, and the north-west coast, visiting Trapani and the ancient Phoenician towns of Erice and Marsala.

If you've finished some of the books you had for Christmas, and are wondering what to do with them, why not bring them to St Mary's Church, Melton? We are collecting books in a box at the back of the church to use at our Saturday activities mornings.
Here's a novel idea... for the next Saturday activities morning in St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, on February 9th we will be celebrating Read in the Bathtub Day.
A funeral service will take place at Rothley Parish Church (LE7 7PD) at 1.30pm on Thursday, 24th January, followed by committal at Loughborough Crematorium, for Suzanne Hooper who died recently.
In November it was announced that the £1.9m Heart of St Mary’s Reordering Project at St Mary’s Church, Melton Mowbray, had won a coveted national award.
It's been a long time coming, but the wait has been well worth it. Yes, St James' Church, Burton Lazars, is now open looking cleaner, brighter and more welcoming.
The New Year got off to a flying start for visitors to the January activities morning in St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, on Saturday (January 12th) when they were entertained by members of the New St George Morris dancers.
Don't miss the annual Pancake Supper to be held this year on Tuesday, March 5th, in Thorpe Arnold Village Hall from 7pm onwards.
Don't miss the next Lunchtime Organ Recital in St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, on Tuesday, 22nd January, when Ian Imlay, from Leicester, will be playing.
Our Tiny Tots Service for children under school-age, from babes in arms up, and their parents, grandparents, childminders, nappy changers, etc, is back after the Christmas break, starting on Thursday, January 10th in St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray.
The next Care and Share Lunch will be held on Sunday, 27th January, at 12.15pm in the Samworth Centre. As always, all are welcome to join us for fellowship and food.
The next meeting of St Mary’s Mothers’ Union will be on Friday, 18th January, at 2pm in the Samworth Centre. There will be the Annual meeting followed by a talk on voluntary work in prisons given by Peter Scott.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Team Vicar, the Revd Dr Mary Barr, pictured, who had a nasty fall on a steep slope in her garden just before Christmas and has fractured the bone at the top of her right arm.
Folk visit our Church for a variety of reasons… and how disappointing it is for them if the door is closed and locked, writes the Revd Kevin Ashby.
