About Us
The Team Parish of Melton Mowbray consists of 6 churches. St. Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, is the largest church within the parish which includes 5 other churches: St. Mary the Virgin in Thorpe Arnold, St. James at Burton Lazars, as well as the churches in Freeby, Welby and Sysonby.
The Parish is part the Framland Deanery within the Diocese of Leicester and we are served by Launde Abbey as our local retreat centre.
Situated in the centre of Melton Mowbray, St. Mary's provides a centre for the community at large as well as the faithful. The building is an architectural gem with parts dating back to about 1170. However, we are more than a beautiful building! St. Mary's is a lovely gathering of people seeking and serving God. The church building is a popular venue for services, weddings, baptisms and musical concerts. In addition, the Samworth Centre at St. Mary's on Burton Street provides the administrative centre for the Parish as well as a cafe and a venue for many cultural and recreational community events.
Our services are diverse from family services to Choral Evensong. Through the week we have lots going on with activities for people of every age. We host the ever popular Alpha Course each year as well as themed educational series. We are a warm and welcoming church and would love to welcome you to our services and events.
Whether you are a local resident exploring faith or an established Christian moving into the area, you are welcome to come and see us and to meet the parish family whether at St. Mary’s in Melton or in one of our lovely smaller village churches.
We are part of the wider church in Melton Mowbray working in partnership with the other Christian Churches through Churches Together.
